Mass Devotion and Community Service Mark Guru Arjan Dev Martyrdom Day in Haridwar Gurdwaras
Haridwar Gurdwaras marked Guru Arjan Dev’s martyrdom day with large-scale devotional gatherings, continuous scripture recitations, and community service activities. Devotees were served refreshments and participated in hymns and prayers. Religious leaders emphasized sacrifice, unity, and the Guru’s teachings of humanity and selfless service.
Across the city, service stalls were set up where people were offered cold sweetened beverages and chickpea offerings as part of a tradition of selfless service and communal harmony. At Nirmal Santpura Gurdwara, the conclusion of a continuous recitation of the Sikh holy scripture was followed by the distribution of sanctified offerings among devotees. Large numbers of devotees also visited Gol Gurdwara, where they paid their respects and bowed in reverence.
At the Jwalapur Gurdwara, a special religious congregation was organized. Devotional singers including Bhai Jagjit Singh, Bhai Manohar Singh, and Bhai Sanjay Singh performed hymns of praise, creating an atmosphere of deep spiritual devotion and collective reverence among the congregation. Throughout the day, continuous recitations of the scripture and recitations of the Sukhmani Sahib prayer were organized at various Gurdwaras.
Speaking on the occasion at Nirmal Santpura Gurdwara, Head Saint Jagjit Singh Shastri stated that Guru Arjan Dev sacrificed his life for the protection of faith. He highlighted that the Guru laid the foundation of the Golden Temple in Amritsar and compiled the Guru Granth Sahib. He further emphasized that Guru Arjan Dev’s martyrdom holds a historic place as the first recorded martyrdom in Sikh history and that Sikhism places supreme importance on selfless service. He added that following the path shown by the Gurus leads to a meaningful and successful life.
The event witnessed the presence of several religious and community figures, including Saint Tarlochan Singh, Saint Manjit Singh, Saint Baljinder Singh Shastri, Balwinder Kaur, Sarbjit Kaur, Harvinder Singh Rinku, Jaspreet Kaur, Fateh Singh, Dayal Singh, Vikram Singh, Manjit Singh Oberoi, Ritika, Agam Singh, Harman Singh, Mahendra Singh, Harvinder Singh Bhatia, Kulwant Singh, Jatinder Singh, Mukund, and Pritam Singh, among others, who actively participated in the religious observances and community service activities.
The observance concluded with a strong message of unity, devotion, and service, reflecting Guru Arjan Dev’s enduring legacy of sacrifice, humanity, and spiritual guidance.
